With the aid of VScode and PlatformIO we can create and edit ESP32 projects to improve the efficiency quite a lot. It includes:

  • Code highlight.
  • Find the reference function with right click on it.
  • Build code time is much shorter then Arduino IDE.
  • Build and flash the code to the ESP32 development board.
  • Debug the code by plotting the output of the serial port.

And PlatformIO supports developing ESP32 with Arduino platform or native ESP32 platform.

To develop an ESP32 project using PlatformIO and Visual Studio Code (VS Code), you will need to install both PlatformIO and VS Code on your computer.
